Wine Tip #62

What’s an easy way to tell whether the restaurant you’re dining at uses high quality wine glasses or not? There are a few ways, including the thickness of the glass, its shape, and its height, but there is one quick tactile indicator that will immediately tell you if the glasses are up to snuff.

Put your fingers around the stem of the glass and move them around the entire stem. Can you feel a seam running down the stem? In other words, can you feel a thin strip of raised glass running vertically along the stem? This is a sign of low-grade wine glasses and is an easy way to test quality next time you’re out in less than a second.
